DEMOLITION DERBY RULES

  1. All drivers must be prepared for inspection.
  2. Drivers must be 18 years of age or have a permission slip from parent or legal guardian.
  3. Any American car or station wagon is allowed.  No Chrysler Imperial, Jeeps, Trucks, Carry-alls, or Convertibles are acceptable.  No diesel engines or compact cars are allowed.
  4. Drivers may enter each heat, but must have a different car for each heat.
  5. The same car must be used in the feature that you qualified in you heat and the SAME DRIVER NO EXCEPTIONS!
  6. All cars must be in 30 minutes before start time.
  7. All drivers and pitmen must sign a release form.
  8. All cars must be inspected and ready to derby at starting time – SO GET THERE EARLY!

PARTICIPATION REGULATIONS

  1. Drivers must maneuver forward or backward.
  2. No drover shall deliberately hit an opponent’s car HEAD ON or IN THE DRIVER’S DOOR.
  3. No playing possum.  You must hit a car within one minute, or you will be disqualified.
  4. ABSOLUTELY NO TEAM DRIVING!!!
  5. All drivers must attend the pit meeting prior to the derby.
  6. All protests must be submitted in writing to officials.  Minimum of five signatures.  No protests will be accepted after the start of the main event. 
  7. Officials have the right to disqualify any car at any time!  The officials’ decision is final.
  8. No driver or pitman under the influence of alcohol will be allowed to participate.
  9. All hoods will be removed for inspection.
  10. First fire is a warning, and the second fire will result in a disqualification.
  11. All drivers must wear a shirt and pants.  NO SHORTS.

PREPARATION OF THE CAR

  1. Slogans, advertising, or printing may be placed anywhere on the car except on the front doors.  Put driver’s name above the number on both sides in large print.  The number is recommended on the roof.
  2. Radiator and fans may be removed but not relocated.  Nothing heavier than hail screen on either side of the radiator is allowed.  Bumpers and fenders may be trimmed.  Driver’s door must be reinforced.  Four-inch channel iron is a suggestion for door protection.  ABSOLUTELY NO GRADER BLADES!!!
  3. All glass (including lights), chrome, trim, etc. and grills must be removed before reaching the facility.  All carpet, headliners, and burnable items must be removed for your safety in case of fire.  Floor plugs must be removed.
  4. Maximum size of gas tank shall be no more than 5 gallons.  The gas tank must be moved to the back seat area and properly secured.  There must be a metal shield between the gas tank and the driver for safety.  NO GI CANS or pressurized shut-off switches are allowed.  Any gas line inside the car must be metal line.
  5. No special bumpers, extra weight, trailer hitches, roll bars, special lifts, airlifts, blocks, shackles, or any other reinforcements except driver’s door will be allowed.  All helper springs shall be cut.  All trunks must be empty of all debris, spare parts, etc.
  6. The maximum frame height shall be 12 inches in front and 13 inches in back, to be measured between the wheels.
  7. Safety belts and helmets are required.  No open face helmets for your safety. 
  8. There must be a fire hole in the hood at least big enough for the use of a fire extinguisher if needed.  All carburetors must have an air cleaner with a filter. 
  9. TIRES:  Paddle tires may be used in the front only.  Mud and snow passenger or light truck tires only.  No tires inside of tires, tubes and air only.
  10. WHEELS:  No beadlock or screwed wheels.  All wheels must be stock production only.
  11. Mirrors are allowed.
  12. Transmission coolers are allowed but NO ICE CAN BE USED!!!!
  13. No alcohol or ether equipment to assist you in restarts.
  14. BATTERIES:  No more than (2) 12-vold batteries may be used.  All batteries must be fastened safely and covered. 
  15. It is allowable to have a horizontal bar behind the seat from door to door for safety purposes.
  16. All cars must have a bounce in the suspension – no solid suspension is allowed.
  17. All cars must have a vertical bar from the roof to the firewall for the driver’s protection.
  18. HOODS:  Maximum of (4) hood pins and NO WELDING, REINFORCING, BOLTING, OR RIVETING HOODS OR TRUNK LIDS IS ALLOWED.
  19. ALL CARS MUST HAVE THE ORIGINAL BODY MOUNTS IN THE ORIGINAL PLACE.
  20. No welding bodies to the frame or adding extra bolts.

WELDING RULES

  1. DOORS, TRUNKS, AND SEAMS:  If welded, may be welded (6) inches and leave (6) inches.
  2. FRAME:  No frame or body to frame welded or bolted other than to the original mounts.
  3. No welding on or under hoods.
  4. No chains, metal, or bolts in the trunk.
  5. No shocks or springs may be welded.
  6. Coil springs may be welded at the base so they don’t fly out.
  7. No chains are allowed from the frame to the rear axle or wrapped around the rear axle.
  8. Station wagons cannot put the 5th body bolts in.
  9. All decking in the rear or a station wagon must be removed.
  10. No straps may be welded from bumper to trunk or tailgate to bumper.

The undersigned desires and intends to participate in the Demolition Derby and related activities during the Kirwin Old Settler’s Day which is of a hazardous nature.  For the privilege of participation in these activities, I hereby release from liability and promise to indemnify the promoters, announcer, employee, and agents and the judges and flagmen from any claim for injury or damage to myself and other persons or any property arising out of my participation in the Demolition Derby or any other related activity.  I also agree to use the track in its present condition and accept all judge’s decisions as final.
